Why Elect Dana Tom?
With two sons in our schools, I have become more and more involved with children and education, serving as PTA president, Site Council co-chair, youth sports coach, and PAUSD Strategic Planning team member. Each experience has deepened my commitment to do more. Today, my hopes for all our children, and my dedication to providing an outstanding education for them, have inspired me to run for school board.
As our schools face both statewide and local challenges, I will work to: provide strong fiscal stewardship which sustains excellence over the long term; oversee first-rate teaching and learning which challenges every student appropriately; and improve the teamwork and communication necessary to engage all stakeholders. Please join me!
In my nearly two decades of high tech business management, I have overseen multi-million dollar projects and analyzed complex budgets. I also served on the Measure A Steering Committee. As a member of the Palo Alto school board, I will ensure accountability to:
- Defending our local property tax revenue
- Using Measure A funds responsibly
- Planning for long-term enrollment growth
First-Rate Teaching and Learning
As a member of the District Strategic Goals team, I helped define our district’s key priorities. I will work to uphold and expand Palo Alto’s proud tradition of outstanding instruction and student achievement. I support:
- Full alignment with our district’s Strategic Goals
- Increased teacher collaboration and sharing of best practices
- Differentiated instruction which meets diverse learning styles
Teamwork and Communication
As a business manager with organizational development experience, I have led diverse, multifunctional teams to achieve results. As Site Council co-chair, I promoted better teamwork between staff and parents. I will work for:
- Decisive leadership based on respectful listening and careful consideration of all stakeholders
- Collaboration with the Los Altos Hills community to explore better ways of serving their students.
- Collaboration, trust, and open discussion at all levels
- Greater transparency in decision making
